Reference Electrodes: Revolutionized

/ /

BORIN Manufacturing entered the reference electrode business in 1976 because we found the construction of reference electrodes offered was flawed:

  • Bagged design – Reference electrodes are surrounded by plaster to help them make contact with the soil, which also makes them impossible for you to test in the factory. This is why we don’t recommend bagged reference electrodes, however if you insist we will bag them for you.
  • Hydroscopic – Plaster caused the dehydration of the CuSO4 solution needed for your reference electrode to work, causing it to have no shelf life (generally dries within 1 month)
  • Leaching of chemicals – Nothing to stop the reference electrode electrolyte (cupric sulfate and sodium chloride) from leaching out into the environment
  • No hydrogen-sulfide barriers – No protection for the reference electrode from H2S attacks
  • Cannot be frozen – Reference cells with a high percentage of water get destroyed each winter
  • Long activation times – 2 to 6 hours

BORIN’s STELTH revolutionized reference electrode technology and solved all of these problems for you – as well as added many new features:

  • Bag-less design – We use medical-grade ceramic for the sensing area which eliminates the need for your reference electrodes to be bagged in plaster
  • Increased sensing area – Ceramic sensing area that’s 36 times larger than its predecessors
  • Solid-state chemistry – Made with the highest-purity laboratory-grade materials, which don’t leach chemicals and are highly conductive
  • 30-year reservoir of electrolyte – Thanks to our proprietary solid-state chemistry, you’ll be retired before your reference electrode electrolyte runs out
  • H2S ion-trapping carrier – Our unique H2S ion-trapping technology protects your reference electrode from hydrogen sulfide
  • H2S sensors – Hydrogen-sulfide sensors are built into the caps – if they turn green, you’ve got H2S near your electrodes
  • Reduced IR-drop – By lowering the internal resistance of the electrode, the IR-drop is reduced, resulting in more accurate readings
  • Greater sensitivity – The large ceramic sensing area of our STELTH 2 and STELTH  6 models helps your electrode be super-perceptive in high-resistance and dry soils
  • Impregnated with ion trappers – Traps chloride plus bromide ions, making your cell more stable and resistant to chloride and bromide
  • Larger sensing element – Our electrode element has 8 times the sensing area of traditional reference electrodes
