Reference Electrodes: Revolutionized
BORIN Manufacturing entered the reference electrode business in 1976 because we found the construction of reference electrodes offered was flawed:
- Bagged design – Reference electrodes are surrounded by plaster to help them make contact with the soil, which also makes them impossible for you to test in the factory. This is why we don’t recommend bagged reference electrodes, however if you insist we will bag them for you.
- Hydroscopic – Plaster caused the dehydration of the CuSO4 solution needed for your reference electrode to work, causing it to have no shelf life (generally dries within 1 month)
- Leaching of chemicals – Nothing to stop the reference electrode electrolyte (cupric sulfate and sodium chloride) from leaching out into the environment
- No hydrogen-sulfide barriers – No protection for the reference electrode from H2S attacks
- Cannot be frozen – Reference cells with a high percentage of water get destroyed each winter
- Long activation times – 2 to 6 hours
